Dr. Otmaro Ruiz is considered one of the most important pianists in jazz today. A versatile talent who performs effortlessly in many different styles, from authentic salsa & afro‐cuban to the most exciting fusion, Dr. Ruiz has a natural ability to express his own language both on the acoustic piano, and through the electronic world of synthesizers.
A native of Venezuela, Ruiz has worked with numerous significant artists throughout his career such as John McLaughlin, Tito Puente, John Patitucci, Marcus Miller, Jon Anderson and many others. As an educator Dr. Ruiz is in high demand, and in addition to teaching at CSCM, he is an adjunct professor of jazz studies at the University of Southern California.
At the Cornel School of Contemporary Music at Shepherd University, Dr. Ruiz teaches Group Performance class and private lessons.
